Because we know so well what democracy isn’t.
It is very heartening to see all the social/political awareness activities going on in the country. There’s Ako Mismo (the concert of which I unknowingly missed! - BAMBOO performed), One Tama, i:The Citizen, and Metro Manila Needs More Green Spaces (Facebook group). It’s quite amazing; of course the crucial step we need to take next is follow through.
On other inspiring things, check out Ginger Ngo’s Ibarra’s Historical Almanac, a successful creative endeavor to chronicle Philippine history through Filipino eyes and voices; a must-see for print lovers!

Undoubtedly, we have all this talent. Now how do we make the majority of the country recognize and appreciate real talent (and finally stop oggling at scantily-clad females dancing on game shows?) It again boils down to people empowerment, through the fulfillment of every Filipino’s basic rights, starting with education, and then encompassing other necessities for a healthy life.

Being here in the Philippines has put my juggling skills to good use. I just finished an online course on grantseeking this morning, did some grants research, and in just a bit, I’ll be revisiting my self-portrait. After that, I’ll be editing some documents for another foundation.
