And the local Radio Mindanao Network radio station is continuously doing a live-coverage of events in Cagayan de Oro. Sadly though my non-Cebuano speaking friends, the broadcast is in the local language. So far, they have reported (as of 1:45PM) that:
- There are 125 dead bodies in three of Cagayan de Oro’s funeral parlors
- Most of the victims of little children
- There is still no electricity and water in most, if not the whole of the city
- There is a lack of potable water in several areas
- Mobile phone signals are erratic; Communication is by text messaging
The only consolation though is that the sun is out. I hope and pray that the number of casualties does not rise. God help the city of my birth!
We can’t call my family because naglutang daw mga cellphone nila :( I’m extremely worried right now.
